Sorry for my extended comments on medabots. It's almost criminal that what I consider one of the best in the jrpg genre has fallen to shovel-ware levels of obscurity. It's like It combines several aspects of every jrpg and wraps it up in a neat, good-looking package with incredibly great combat.
The best way I have to describe this game is pokemon meets magic: the gathering, but there are no cards involved. And the dialog, while not in the same level of pokemon or earthbound, does really have it's moments. There's even some decision making to be made and it actually changes the story, places you visit, dialog and end-game medals you receive. It's strategy heavy, tactic heavy, and farming enemies won't really allow you to breeze through the game if you don't think your meda-strategy correctly.īut it isn't lacking in story either it has a compelling story in which you want the main character to realize what's going on around him. Late game battles let you control 3 medabots at the same time. The combat is nuanced (I initially intended to make a mini-explanation of the gameplay, but I reckon that'd deserve it's own post altogether), there are quite a lot of medaparts to choose from. But I digress, using the same analogy, if pokemon was like having sex, then medabots is like having sex with a genital-craving maniac who also happens to be the person you love.
Mind you, this was from those starved days when Diablo 3 hadn't come along to show us that our favorite hack and slash is not without fault. I once read from a titan quest review, which I can't really place where from, "if Diablo was like having sex and Diablo clones were like using a fleshlight, then titan quest is a really good fleshlight". Medabots was, for all intents and purposes, a pokemon clone. I actually took the time to re play some games I had in order to not be giving advice on nostalgia only, and there is one game that stands out as really good: What are some games you believe were never given that good publicity they deserved on the gba?
